Nach dem Sieg in Vilsbiburg wartet auf die DSC Volleyball Damen an diesem Mittwoch eine Herausforderung der besonderen Art. Der Deutsche Meister empfängt zum Heimspiel-Auftakt in der Champions League den russischen Meister Lokomotiv KALININGRAD Region.

Leider sind nach der sächsischen Corona-Verordnung keine Zuschauer zugelassen, was für unsere Mannschaft natürlich sehr bitter ist, da in der Vergangenheit in diesen internationalen Spielen die Unterstützung von den Rängen den DSC-Spielerinnen auch geholfen hat, für so manche Überraschung zu sorgen. Aber für die Fans gibt es kurzfristig noch eine Möglichkeit, das Spiel – und auch alle weiteren Auftritte unseres Teams in der Champions League – im Livestream des MDR zu verfolgen.

Die Rollen in diesem zweiten Spiel in der Gruppe A sind klar verteilt. Die Gäste aus Russland, die am Montag mit einer Charter-Maschine anreisten, gehen als klare Favoritinnen in diese Begegnung. Der Kader ist hochkarätig besetzt und das Team ist in der Heimat und auch in der europäischen Königsklasse in dieser Spielzeit noch ungeschlagen. „Es ist eine Mannschaft mit vielen großgewachsenen, physisch sehr starken Spielerinnen. Da ist es das größte Problem, sich im Angriff durchsetzen. Zugleich aber wird es schwierig, einen guten Block gegen sie zu stellen. Sie sind insgesamt eine ausgezeichnet organisierte Mannschaft, die sich nur wenig Fehler leistet, viele gute Lösungen findet und ihre ganz eigene Spielidee konsequent umsetzen“, erläutert Alexander Waibl und er fügt hinzu: „Die wesentliche Voraussetzung für uns wird ein stabiles Annahmespiel, damit wir versuchen können, auch unseren Schnellangriff richtig in Szene zu setzen. Und es bedarf einer guten Block- und Feldabwehr“, so die Strategie des 53-Jährigen, der dieses Duell als Chance zur Weiterentwicklung seiner Spielerinnen und des Teams insgesamt sieht. „Sollten sie uns im Spiel eine kleine Chance bieten, wollen wir bereit sein, sie auch zu nutzen“, gibt sich der DSC-Coach zugleich kämpferisch.

Zu den herausragenden Punktesammlerinnen von Kaliningrad gehören vor allem die russische Nationalspielerin Irina Voronkova und die Polin Malwina Smarzek. Die 1,90 m große Voronkova ist die Tochter von Trainer Andrei Voronkov und hat in ihrer Laufbahn schon einige Erfolge errungen. So gewann die 26-Jährige unter anderem 2014 mit Dinamo Kazan auch schon die Champions League und die Klubweltmeisterschaft. Mit der Serbin Bianka Busa haben die Gäste eine weitere international erfolgreiche Spielerin in ihren Reihen. Gemeinsam mit unserer DSC-Libera Teodora Pušić gewann sie unter anderem 2018 den WM-Titel.

„Wir freuen uns sehr auf das Spiel. Gerade für unsere jungen Mädels werden das extrem wichtige Erfahrungen, die sie sammeln können“, ist Alexander Waibl überzeugt.

DSC faces major challenge in the Champions League

That’s where the biggest problem is to assert yourself in attack. But at the same time, it will be difficult to put up a good block against them. Overall, they are an excellently organized team that makes very few mistakes, finds many good solutions and consistently implements its own game plan,“ explains Alexander Waibl, adding: „The essential prerequisite for us will be a stable receiving game so that we can also try to set the stage for our fast attack. And it requires good block and field defense,“ is the strategy of the 53-year-old, who sees this duel as an opportunity to further develop his players and the team as a whole. „Should they offer us a small chance in the match, we want to be ready to take advantage of it,“ the DSC coach is at the same time combative.

Among Kaliningrad’s outstanding point scorers are Russian international Irina Voronkova and Poland’s Malwina Smarzek. The 1.90 m tall Voronkova is the daughter of coach Andrei Voronkov and has already achieved a number of successes in her career. Among other things, the 26-year-old won the Champions League and the World Club Championship with Dinamo Kazan in 2014. With the Serbian Bianka Busa, the guests have another internationally successful player in their ranks. Together with our DSC Libera Teodora Pušić, she won the World Cup title in 2018, among other things.

„We are very much looking forward to the match. Especially for our young girls, this will be extremely important experience they can gain,“ Alexander Waibl is convinced.
